The premise
A present publisher statement may not settle the complete history of an address. We make the reasoning visible. A considered editorial note should show how a source leads to a limited conclusion, including the alternative explanation that has not been ruled out.
Test the inference
One plausible account can crowd out questions that were never independently checked. Write out the supported premise and the conclusion separately. Ask whether another explanation is still possible and whether the wording goes beyond the source. The resulting note may be narrower than the original headline, which is a useful editorial result rather than a failure.
Frame a limited conclusion
Attribute the account and name the remaining uncertainty. Keep the question, the source reference and the remaining limitation together so that a later reader can reconstruct the reasoning.
